Gray Shino tea bowl, known as "Yama-no-ha"

Height 8.2 cm, mouth diameter 13.3 cm, base diameter 6.1 cm
 Nezu Museum
This tea bowl is similar in style to the “Mine Momiji”, but the rat-colored glaze is a little lighter, probably because the underglaze oniita makeup was thinner. The entire surface of the bowl has been covered with “oniita-gouge,” so the area around the pedestal, which is not glazed, also shows a reddish-black skin. The body and the prospective are roughly decorated with hinokigaki and tortoiseshell patterns, and the waist is carved in the style of a mountain path. The open outer base is strongly carved, and inside the base is carved a well-digit kiln mark. There are five finger marks clearly visible on the sides of the base. It is assumed to have been made in the kiln under the Oyasaya kiln.
On the back of the lid of the box, there is an inscription of a poem, “May rain haharenyasaru yamabata ni kareru uno no susuku nariyuku” (May rain is falling and the clouds are becoming thin).
