Seto Black tea bowl, known as “Buaku”

Seto Black tea bowl, known as "Buaku"

Height 9.9 cm, mouth diameter 10.5 cm, base diameter 6.5 cm
Tokyo National Museum
This piece is inscribed “Bu-roi,” which may be a reference to the rather artificial manner in which it was made. The body is strongly covered with vertical spatula, emphasizing its strength, but it is not as straightforwardly made as the previous examples, and has the distortions of the so-called Oribe style.
