Height 13.5 cm, mouth diameter 26.8 cm, bottom diameter 16.0 cm
This is a shallow, wide-mouthed, flat suizashi, exactly the same shape as this one, which was owned by Sen Sotan and passed down to Fushin’an. It is a simple wheel-thrown piece with gently rounded lines on the potter’s wheel and a thin layer of ash glaze from the mouth to the shoulder. On the bottom, “Takiike (Hanashoi)” is written by Kakusai Haraso in red lacquer. Bizen ware often has calligraphy by the master of the Fukien-an school, such as this one by Sotan and this one by Haraso. This may be because they were highly valued as wabicha (tea ceremony utensils) since Rikyu.
