The brushwork is strong and the composition is highly picturesque.
This type of early underglaze blue and white large bowl has a unique style not seen in Karatsu ware of a generation before or in Imari ware of the mid-17th century and later.
It is not clear what kind of demand this pottery was intended for, but it is interesting.
The interior is covered with arabesque bands, and the wide guard rim has a dotted mottled pattern randomly carved into it with thin arabesque lines.
