This is a large bowl with a bell-shaped rim, and is the most splendid large work among the early Imari Sometsuke ware. The potter’s wheel was thrown on the potter’s wheel at once, and it is remarkable that such a large work was produced in Arita, which has many defects in its clay. The landscapes painted on the surface of the prospect show not only simplicity but also abstraction of painting. It is very interesting to know what kind of potter was inspired to create this type of painting. The rim is decorated with chrysanthemum patterns on three sides, and the ground is randomly decorated with dotted mottled patterns. The base is about a quarter of the size of the bowl, and the reverse side is unmarked.
