Height: 8.0 cm; Mouth diameter: 9.9–10.5 cm; Foot diameter: 4.1 cm
On the underside of the inner box lid, Kakukaku Saigen has inscribed: “Ichinyu Black Tea Bowl, Name: Kanoko-moto (seal).” This tea bowl features a vermilion glaze that appears vivid, though it takes on a slightly brownish hue both inside and out; needless to say, the inscription “Kanoko-moto” perfectly captures its appearance. Although small in size, this is a tea bowl with a deeply elegant form even among the “Ichinyu” series. The interior has a generous depth, with a tea pool carved out in the center; the rim is tightly defined, the body gently swells, and the foot is carved with a rounded waist and a small footring. The footring’s design is distinctive, with the outer edge and sides strongly rounded, and a “kabuto-kin” (helmet-shaped) protrusion raised in the center. The footring is left unglazed, revealing the clay; it is likely made with Bizen clay mixed in, as it is fired to a harder consistency than the so-called Juraku clay. It bears no markings.
