　This long-bodied jar with a short neck is descended from short-necked jars of the Heian period. It is thought to have been made in the 12th century. The clay is slightly sandy and almost white in color. A short-necked jar of this type of material could be considered Atsumi, but since it is closer to Sanage, we have included it in the Sanage category. Although its use is not clear, it is also a utilitarian vessel, and there are examples of it being used as an outer container for sutra tubes.
