A samurai of the Ogi Clan in Hizen Province (Saga Prefecture), Egoshi was a pioneer in the education of pottery manufacturing and business. When an elementary school was first established in Arita, he was welcomed as the principal and enthusiastically educated his pupils. In his later years, he established a craft school to promote the development of Arita’s industry, and invested his own money to build a school building and expand the teaching staff. The people of Arita still hold a town festival to remember their old debt to him. (History of the Arita porcelain industry)
