Jar. Bottle. It is said to have originated in China with the Shennong clan. A dictionary check reveals that jar, pothole, poppy, vessel, etc. are all bottles of the same shape and almost the same object. In Japan, mikas, hotogi, etc. are listed in the Engishiki (Engi Shiki) as tribute items along with various other vessels, and Shigaraki, Ibe, Tokoname, etc. are prominent among later hardware bottles.
