This term refers to designs depicting Chinese children. Hirado ware is most famous for this design. The most prized were those with Chinese children playing happily under a pine tree in gosu, and were presented to the Shogunate or as gifts to the Marquis of Matsuura. Depending on the number of children depicted, they were called “three Chinese children,” “five Chinese children,” “seven Chinese children,” etc., with “seven Chinese children” being the best.
