Sen Saso Soshitsu. The fourth generation of the Urasenke school. Born in 1622. Born in 1622, his childhood name was Genshitsu. Sotan’s second son Ichio Somori became the Mushashikoji Senke, and his third son Esen Soza became the Omote Senke, and the three Senke schools have flourished to this day. In 1642, Saso served Maeda Toshinaga of Kaga (Ishikawa Prefecture) and became his chado (tea master). Among Saso’s achievements in the Kaga art and craft world, he had one of his apprentices, Chozaemon, who had come from Kyoto to start Ohi-yaki pottery, and had potter Miyazaki Kanki make a variety of tea kettles for the tea ceremony. He returned to Kyoto in 1687 and died in January 1697 at the age of 78.
