A potter of Miaoyogawa ware in Satsuma Province (Kagoshima Prefecture). In 1857, when the first porcelain factory was established at the Miaoshirokawa kiln and made by the Satsuma Lee government, he was ordered to be the chief manager of the factory and produced coffee bowls, Western tableware, and other export items as well as miscellaneous vessels.
In 1873, he exhibited a pair of large vases at the World Exposition in Vienna, Austria, which was highly praised and further promoted the export of Satsuma-yaki. After the dissolution of the company, Juguan worked to restore the reputation of Satsuma-yaki, which had temporarily lost its value due to overproduction, by carefully selecting and researching raw materials. In 1885, he received the Medal of Merit from the Minister of Agriculture and Commerce for his distinguished service, and in 1901, he was awarded the Medal with Green Ribbon.
