Shosoin
Of the ten bowls of the same shape, three are yellow-glazed bowls among the Shosoin ceramics. The base is made of grayish-white, rather coarse clay, skillfully wheel-thrown, and thinly detailed. As with the Nisai bowls, the bottom of the bowls is smooth and thin. The bottom of the bowl is still in the guttation form and has a pale eggshell color. The glaze is pale yellow with a slight greenish tinge and faint silvering. The outer surface has a whitish mottled pattern called “Gohon,” which often occurs when fired at a reducing neutral temperature. The edge of the mouth is chipped in some places, but this is common to all of the arms, and is the result of stringing when the vessels were stacked and hung from a string. There is a lot of rubbing on the surface of the vessel, and the use marks are evident.
