Suntory Museum of Art
The sharply folded back shape of the mouth is typical of this type of flat bowl, and the four sides of the bowl are picked out to create a seemingly floral shape. This bowl also seems to have been made by applying oniita (devil’s plate) makeup, and the design is composed by making use of the white ground that was left over. In other words, the white ground left over is regarded as a rock, and a tree with a fine leaf tip is shown in white, and three geese are arranged in the sky. One side of the rim is decorated with a rat pattern, while the other side is decorated with a straw pattern and dotted spots. The bottom has legs on all four sides, and there are five small marks on the base. The glaze is smooth and well melted.
