This so-called “tebachi” bowl with an arched hand is highly valued and prized as a representative example of Oribe ware. This deep bowl has a long, four-sided mouth opening outward and a low, raised rim, with a large hand attached to the opposite corner, and legs on all four sides of the bottom. The diagonal line is bordered on one side by a large amount of green glaze, and on the other side, as usual, red clay is utilized, and floral and abstract patterns are roughly expressed in white makeup and iron painting, with a thin feldspar glaze applied on top. The white and red clays are joined together to form the mold, and a cloth is applied to facilitate mold removal, leaving traces of the cloth on the interior surface. This is one of the best Oribe hand pots we have seen in our collection, and the entire piece is softly fired.
