A gong bowl with a sword-rimmed mouth rim. It is a rare example of its kind, and is called “Benishino. The prospective view is somewhat indistinct, but there is a design of trees, etc., and the entire surface is thickly and generously covered with feldspar glaze. The glazed surface is quite uneven, but it melts softly and has a deep flavor. This type of pot was called beni-shino and distinguished from akashino by Doji Moe Kato, but it is thought that a thin layer of yellow earth was applied under the glaze, distinguishing it from the so-called nezumi-shino and akashino pots. The bottom is in the shape of a goze, with a wide, shallow, circular cutout. Some people speculate that it may have come from the Nakagama kiln.
