Seto Black tea bowl, known as "Himatsu"

Height 11.0cm, mouth diameter 11.0cm, base diameter 5.0cm
Manno Museum of Art
This is a rather thick cylindrical tea bowl, the rounded rim is partially warped at the edge, the body shows gentle undulations on the potter’s wheel, and the rounded waist is strong, bringing strength to the tea bowl. The small height of the base is very interesting and the inside of the base is clearly carved out. Two strong spatula carvings have been added to the sides of the base, and four or five vertical spatulas have been added to the body, making this an interesting piece with a rich tea flavor even while it is strong. The black glaze has been applied randomly around the base, but there are four spots where the glaze has stuck to the body and finger marks are still visible on the waist. The tatami mats show slight traces of itokiri (thread cutting). There is an inscription “Seto Black Tea Bowl, Nissho” on the front of the lid of the inner box. The author is Toda Rogin, and it is said to have once belonged to Rogin.
