It seems that many black Oribe tea bowls were produced during the Keicho Genna period (1596-1624), and there are not a few that have been handed down from generation to generation. The style of production varied, and the passage of time can be clearly seen. However, there are few tubular tea bowls, and although we are fortunate to have nine in this volume, we have only heard of a few others.
The thick mouth is stepped, and the body is carved with a waist-high tension. The body is decorated with a plum and flower design on one side and a stone pavement design on the other side, both painted with iron pigments, and the other side of the body is covered with a thin layer of iron pigments and a thin layer of white glaze. The entire surface of the other side of the body is covered with a thin layer of iron pigment, and then a thin layer of white glaze is applied over the glaze. The irregularly rounded base is large, with a broad and sturdy tatami mat, and a “10” mark is engraved on the inside of the base.
The white clay is slightly hardened.
