This tea caddy once belonged to Enshu Kobori (1579-1647). It left the Kobori family during the Genroku era (1688-1704) and moved to the Tsuchiya family, and was sold by the Tsuchiya family to Fumai Matsudaira in the fourth year of the Kansei era. It is a slender tea caddy with the unique distortion of Oribe ware, and a part of the body is glazed in two layers, and a simple pattern is painted in iron glaze. There are few Oribe ware tea caddies, and this highly decorative piece is also rare. On the lid of the lid, there are two inscriptions in Enshu’s calligraphy: “Myself Tsukushi” in gold-painted letters and “Myself Tsukushi Kohuru Shirushi ni Komatte Mekuri Ahiru E ni Fukashina” in silver-painted letters on the side. Needless to say, the inscription is from “The Tale of Genji”.
