Bizen Water jar
Bizen Water jar

Height 10.2 cm, mouth diameter 13.0 cm, body diameter 18.9 cm, bottom diameter 17.7 cm
This is a low-rising mizusashi with a strongly constricted body, as if it were a heavy rice cake. The body is decorated with vertical spatula marks and the base with horizontal spatula marks. The ash is thickly applied from the mouth to the shoulder, giving it a dark brown color, and there are also some reddish patches on the surface. The entire piece is made thickly, so although it is small, it is a little heavy to handle. The bottom is lightly carved with a kiln mark and the front is marked with a square mark in the style of incense.
This is probably a typical example of a water jar of a different shape, but it is also thought that some of this type may have originated as miscellaneous vessels.
