Height 15.5cm, mouth diameter 16.1cm x 23.0cm, body diameter 25.5cm, bottom diameter 16.6cm x 17.5cm.
This is an Eboshi-shaped water jar with pipe ears on both sides. The back of the jar bears the inscription “August Mouth Date, Kan’ei Hatsukaichi” and the front bears the inscription “By Sumisada, Bizen Province” in thin characters. This suggests that most of this type of Ibe hand-rabbit-shaped water jar was fired around the Kan’ei period. They were probably popular from around Keicho to Genna and Kan’ei periods. The style of this type of water jar is thin and vigorous for Bizen, and it seems to belong to the so-called Enshu’s taste, based on Enshu’s own Eboshi-shaped water jar and other examples.
One side of the body and the inside of the body are covered with sesame glaze, and one side is burnt red. A kiln mark is engraved on the bottom. It is probably one of the most valuable materials of Bizen ware.
