Bizen Beaked shallow bowl

Bizen Beaked shallow bowl
Height 6.6 cm, mouth diameter 20.6 cm, left and right sides 25.0 cm, bottom diameter 12.3 cm, Okayama Prefectural Museum
This flat kataguchi-guchi, with the mouth held inward, is a rare example of this type. It is thought to be an old piece of this type of kataguchi-guchi. The exterior is coated with a sesame glaze, and the prospective ware has been fired to a grayish-brown color. It appears to have been fired under a submerged firing, and there is a circular hole on the bottom where the sesame glaze has fallen. A kiln mark is spatula-engraved in the center of the bottom.
