Height 10.4cm, mouth diameter 12.8cm, base diameter 7.8cm
This is a rather thick and sturdy tea bowl, said to be made by Shinjiro, who was active in the Keicho period and is said to be a master craftsman of Shigaraki. The body is rounded with a triangular section, and a low, large base. The inside of the base is carved with a rounded spatula without cutting, and the waist is also roughly covered with a chamfered spatula, showing a seemingly rough and unrefined workmanship. The entire surface is coated with a thin layer of ash, and a yellowish green ash glaze is applied from the base to the waist area, probably due to the fact that it was fired face-down. The mouth of the vessel has a sticking mark due to the prone firing process, and the prospective area has been deeply carved. On the side of the base, there is a “イ” mark, which is said to have been carved by Shinjiro’s hand. On the cover of the box, there is an inscription “Shigaraki Tea Bowl, Ground Millstone,” but the author is unknown. The inscription “Hiki-usu” is probably due to the sturdy shape of the bowl.
