Height 17.9 cm, mouth diameter 12.0-16.0 cm, bottom diameter 18.0 cm
This piece is similar to a Bizen or Shigaraki water jar, but it is Tanba ware.
It is wheel-thrown and made of cord. The body has a vertical and horizontal thick spatula. The body is decorated with thick spatula and hinokigaki patterns horizontally and the left and right ears are also decorated with zanguri. According to Shigeo Sugimoto, this is the oldest Tamba-yaki tea bowl made in the Momoyama period (late Edo period). Kakusai Haraso, the sixth generation of Omotesenke, wrote “Shigure ni mo yori ni yoshi hare-an” (Good for both rain and snow, or broken hermitage) directly on the bottom back in red lacquer. The bottom of the bowl has a rounded sticking mark, and there are sticking marks around the mouth as well.
