Small dish with plover design, iron brown glaze

Height 3.3cm, mouth diameter 15.8cm, bottom diameter 7.8cm
Hakone Art Museum
This piece has been called sukusaka ware since ancient times, and exactly similar fragments have been excavated from the Yamakoya kiln in Arita and other kilns.
It is a flat dish with a slightly elevated base, a shallow five-petal incision at the mouth rim, and thickly molded overall.
Many of this type of white porcelain with a white slip pattern were made using a paper pattern or a stencil, but this piece seems to have been made by applying iron lees to the entire surface, scraping off plovers, dust, grass, etc., and then applying a white glaze after applying staining.
It is a rare masterpiece among iron-ground white glazed wares.
The base of the bowl has a dewy base.
There are five pieces in the set.
