Height 13.9 cm, mouth diameter 33.8 cm, bottom diameter 11.1 cm
This is a large deep bowl with a slightly open guard rim, and the mouth is cut into a 29-petal chrysanthemum shape. A bird is placed on a rock in the center of the circular window and clouds are arranged in the sky. Around the window is a peony arabesque design with flowers on all four sides, and a simple twenty-nine-petal design with thin lines, which is also drawn on the outside. The color of the underglaze blue is rather dark, and a bluish transparent glaze is thickly applied over it. The glaze is rough in some areas, but melts smoothly over the entire surface. The small size of the base in comparison to the size of the mouth is also a remarkable characteristic of large early Imari Sometsuke bowls. A similar large chrysanthemum-shaped bowl was excavated from the Hyakumon kiln, so this bowl is thought to have been made at the Hyakumon kiln.
