 This is another jar with a slightly high neck and stroked shoulders, but compared to the jar in Figure 88, it has a clearly carved base. There are two types of early Imari jars: those with a carved base and those without such a base, as shown in Figure 88. The neck has windows on three sides with floral motifs in them, and the surrounding area is filled with a gauze pattern. A thin line is drawn on the shoulder, from which a pine tree and plum tree are painted on two sides. It is probably a work from the Kan’ei period. This is an excellent example of early Imari Sometsuke jar.
