This is an example of a gourd-shaped flattened jar as if it were made between the Ming Dynasty and the Xuande Period. It is clearly a copy of an early Ming Dynasty underglaze blue gourd-shaped flattened jar of this type, and is unprecedented. However, a detailed examination of the underglaze blue, the base, and other details shows that it could only have been made in Imari, and there is a possibility that more examples of this type will be discovered in the future. In particular, the eight-petaled floral motifs centering on the Tomoe pattern on the body and the circular cloisonne pattern on the rim are typical of Imari. The sides are covered with an arabesque design. The date of production is not clear, but it is thought to be pre-Kanbun.
