This example is different from so-called “katamono” wares. Although the clay is a little rough, the curved surface of the molding is quite strong. The inside of the circular window is decorated with a floral pattern characteristic of Imari ware, and the surrounding area is decorated with peony arabesques in a graceful brushstroke. The outside also shows floral arabesques, and this type of work is often seen in exported pieces. The inside of the stand is painted with only a double circle. Compared to so-called katamono, this piece is decorated only with overglaze painting instead of using underglaze painting for the design.
