Shallow, flat vessels appeared in Sue ware in the latter half of the 7th century. It is thought that the technique of grinding such large-diameter, flat vessels on the potter’s wheel was finally achieved around this time. This corresponds with the development of the upper part of the high cups into a plate shape. The type of vessels were variously large and small, with or without a base, but all of them had a rounded curved waist, and from around the end of the 8th century, they began to rise obliquely outward with a ridge at the waist. This vessel, dating from the early 8th century, has a strong outwardly extending base. It has a yellowish-white color due to being freshly baked. It was over-fired, and two pieces were excavated fused together.
