Five Gamakouzu plants are shown in two tiers, top and bottom. This is probably the only piece, other than Nabeshima, that uses only kamaboshi, a weed that blooms in the fields in spring, to form a single pattern. It is natural that Nabeshima would favor many auspicious designs since it was a domain kiln, but it is also characteristic of Nabeshima to take simple materials such as these and use them in the beauty of the inroe. This is also one of the best examples of a seven-sun dish. Both the underglaze blue and the overglaze blue are ideally fired, but the green coloring of the leaves is particularly outstanding and vivid. The outer surface is decorated on three sides with cloisonne patterns, as usual, by connecting six cloisonne motifs in a single pattern, and the base is covered with a comb pattern. The clay with tatami mats on the base is slightly reddish.
