 These are also shallow-rise, five-sun plates in the old Nabeshima style, probably made in the later period of the Minamikawara domain kilns, but the expression of the design using sumi-hajiki has already reached a state of perfection. Technically, it clearly shows that the Nabeshima domain kilns had reached a high level of sophistication during the Minamikawara period. Compared to the exquisiteness of the surface, the design on the reverse side is somewhat coarse in a manner characteristic of old Nabeshima, with a peony arabesque design with flowers on five sides in Figure 89, and an oriented-branch design on three sides in Figure 90.
