A type of Sue ware with an oval body and a short, wide-mouthed neck is called a horizontal vase. Horizontal vases are one of the most basic storage vessels that existed from the beginning of Sue ware: and have a long history of use dating back to the early 9th century. This vessel is made of rolled-up clay and shaped by pounding, with the left end covered by an applied lid. It was fired by smoked reduction firing, and the surface of the vessel shines black. It is an excellent example of an early horizontal vase with two annular ears on the shoulder.
