Küchū: tea bowl with Mt. Fuji design, Shigaraki ware

 This is a small, hand-kneaded tea bowl with a slanting, interestingly distorted mouth, a rounded waist, and a whorl-shaped carving within the small base. One side of the body is painted with a spatula with a “fuji” pattern, one side is covered with an ash glaze, and the other side is also covered with an ash glaze. An inscription in the air is carved in relief on the base.
 On the front of the lid of the box, the character for “air” is written in gold powder in a running script, and the writer is said to be Haiya Shaoyasu. The writer is said to be Haiya Shaomasu. It was donated to the Tokyo National Museum by Hirota Fukkosai.
