Height 11.2 cm, mouth diameter 4.4 cm, bottom diameter 6.5 cm
This is another example of the kotsuji-style technique, but this one is unique to Kikume’s work.
The body is shaped with the top and bottom joined at the center, and is soft and bulky, with a somewhat thick and stout spout and handle on the shoulder.
The three sides of the body are decorated with a peacock design, and between the peacock and cloud patterns, each pattern is covered with yellow, purple, and green colored glazes. The base is only hardened and not glazed, and fine white clay is used. The lid of the kyusu is decorated with a tiger’s knob, which is one of the best of its kind, and the inscription on the front of the lid of the kyusu’s box, “Kure imitates a tiger knob lid, kyusu, Mokume-zukuri,” suggests that it is an imitation of a Chinese jade or gilt knob. The oval seal of “Kume” is stamped on the back of the handle.
