This is the best example of an early ash-glazed vase of this type. Another one of the same shape was produced by the same kiln. It is made of a dense grayish-white clay and is neatly shaped and molded in a ring. The ash glaze is applied with a brush and is well melted. This type of vase was used as a pair of sake cups and is depicted in the “Matsuzaki Tenjin Engi Emaki” and other works.
