Hikawa Nyotai Shrine
This vase was handed down to the Hikawa Nyotai Shrine and is paired with another of the same shape. The basic shape of this vase is a shimeko-type vase, but the entire body is slender, corresponding to the degenerated neck of the mouth. The body is divided into four sections with parallel sunken lines. The upper end is decorated with a small rounded sword-tip design, and the upper half is decorated with a peony design surrounded by leaves on three sides. The narrow space is filled with arabesque motifs, and the waist is proudly decorated with rounded sword-tip motifs. The clay is a yellowish-white color with a smooth brown glaze, which suggests that it was made in Mino. The back of the bowl has a carved base.
