Excavated from Nogami Sutra Mound, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture
13th century
Height 27.5cm, mouth diameter 12.1cm, body diameter 19.0cm, bottom diameter 9.0cm
Tokyo National Museum
The shoulder has lost its tension and the body has thinned considerably, but the neck of the mouth is still open, suggesting that this is a 13th-century vase. The triangular cross section of the folded edge of the mouth rim indicates that it may have been produced by the Atsumi kiln. The clay is slightly rich in sand.
