In the Nanbokucho period (14th century), large jars from Tokoname tended to be significantly larger in diameter than in height and body diameter. This phenomenon is common in other ceramic centers as well, but the reason for this is not clear. The width of the rim band is inevitably wider in relation to the larger diameter.
