This is one of the small jars with carved design, a specialty of Atsumi, and is thought to have been made in the 13th century based on the slightly narrowed neck and straight waist line. The base is gray and rich in sand, and the clay is rolled up and molded. The body is adjusted using me vertically and the surface of the vessel is brushed with a brush. The engraved design on the shoulder is similar to that on a medium-sized jar excavated from the Tsubozawa kiln, with an arc that opens to a figure eight on top of two parallel sunken lines, with a meandering sunken line between them. It is well fired, with natural glaze on the shoulders.
