A great masterpiece. This is a tea caddy with a shoulder strap, made in China. The overall color is candy brown with a reddish yellow glaze forming a curtain, resembling the hem of a priest’s vermilion robe, and the inscription is said to have been inspired by this scene. The yellow glaze is interesting, and the inscription “vermillion robe” is also said to be related to this scene. Originally owned by Takeno Shaowo, it later became the property of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and was temporarily transferred to the Marquis of Kishu, but was presented to the Shogunate again by the same family in 1850.
