The originator of Raku ware. Father of Chojiro I. According to the “Wahan shohutsu chao” (1694, compiled in the seventh year of the Genroku era), “The original potter was a Tang Dynasty Chinese, probably from the Rikyu period,” and he was probably a Ming Dynasty Chinese. According to conventional sources, he is said to have called himself Sokei, but according to the Rakuke Soiryu document, Ameya and Sokei were two different persons. Although his legacy is unknown, it is believed that he was the first to use Kamo black stone as a glaze and is revered as the originator of Raku ware because of his achievement in opening the foundation of Raku ware.
