This item was reportedly excavated from the hill behind Yokozo-ji Temple, a famous temple in Ibi-gun, Gifu Prefecture, and is probably a sutra mound companion piece. This three-mimi jar has a unique Atsumi style with a triangular cross section and a triangular rim with the tip of the neck of the mouth folded over. The shoulders are painted with a kesa-dasuki design, one of Atsumi’s distinctive patterns. The base is a coarse clay rich in sand, and the shoulders are covered with a yellowish green ash glaze. This three-mimi jar is rare in early Atsumi.
