There are several known unglazed four-mimi jars with a rough, light-brown base like this one, and they have been included in the Koseto category, although the kiln used for them remains unknown. Recently, one such kiln site (Kiln No. 14, Suei) was discovered among the Mino Suei Kiln Site Group in Kakamigahara City, and its provenance has been clarified. The kiln is located at an elevation of nearly 150 m above sea level on the hill behind Mt. Inada, where Sue ware kilns are most densely concentrated.
This four-lobed jar has an extremely thick wall due to the coarse clay, and is characterized by its broad shoulders and bulging body, as well as its uniformly small base. It is marked with a large mark on the shoulder. The light-brown surface is covered with a yellowish-green natural glaze from the neck to the shoulder, making this the best of the four-mimi jars of this type known to date.
