This jar has a thin, narrow mouth and neck that stands upright slightly outward, rounded shoulders, and a straight line running from the lower half of the body to the bottom. The rounded shoulders and small, narrow neck are characteristic of Echizen pottery. The lower half of the body is adjusted by using joints vertically. The dark green natural glaze, which is applied generously over the entire surface of the dark brown shoulder and part of which runs down to the lower half of the body, further enhances the aesthetic effect of this jar. The combination of the crisp form, the color tone of the surface, and the effect of the glaze makes this one of the finest examples of medieval Echizen pottery.
