Since ancient times, the classification of Korean tea bowls among tea masters in Japan has included the term Korai. Korai can be said to be a generic term for Korean tea bowls in a sense, and tea masters have always referred to unclassified Korean tea bowls simply as Korai ware to avoid criticism from later generations, and even during the Enshu period, many Korean tea bowls were described vaguely as Korai on the box label to muddy the tea ceremony. This is probably because Korean ceramics are so varied that they cannot be easily classified.
In short, the name “Koryo” encompasses a relatively wide variety of Korean tea bowls, and in many cases, ceramics inspired by Chinese kilns can be found in it as well. (Taisho Meikikan)
