Saiko-kai (Society for the Study of Ceramics)

marusankakusikaku

A ceramic study group established in the Department of Psychology at the University of Tokyo in March 1914, under the leadership of Masatoshi Okochi, Seiichi Okuda, and others. The group was temporarily suspended after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, but the Institute of Oriental Ceramics was later organized, and in November 1927, the journal Ceramics was published, followed by the revival of regular meetings. The transcripts of his lectures were published as “Saibokai Guroku,” which has become an influential reference work in the history of modern Japanese ceramics.
