Sari
Sari

A small city in Mazanderan on the Caspian Sea coast, north of Iran. It produced ceramics with distinctive bird patterns in the 11th and 2nd centuries. A large bird is depicted in the center, surrounded by floral and bead patterns. Colors include red, black, yellow, and green.
The use of dotted dots is common to the technique used in the Nishapur region to the east. Bird’s eyes are generally depicted in large sizes, which is a remnant of the belief in evil eye. The belief in the Evil Eye was widespread in Western Asia (Pope, A., 1974).
