Seventeenth of the Shimazu family, lord of the three provinces of Satsuma, Osumi, and Hyuga (Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures). Born in 1535. He was born in 1535 and went to the battle of Bunroku-Keicho (1592-8) and brought back many Joseon potters.
This was the origin of Chosa pottery, Kajiki pottery, Kushikino pottery, Naeshirokawa pottery, etc., in his territory. While he was a brilliant general, he was also well versed in the arts and rhetoric. During his visits to Kyoto, he often learned the secrets of the tea ceremony from Sen no Rikyu, a famous tea master. He died in 1619 at the age of 85.
