This yellow-green glaze with small black spots has a matte surface and resembles buckwheat noodles, hence the name. The main coloring component of the glaze is iron, and after melting, the crystals precipitate out, causing the glaze to lose its luster, and depending on the firing flame, it may turn into blue or yellow buckwheat glaze. They are much loved by antique dealers, and many of them are noble because of their hue, shape, and design. See also “soba” and “soba hand.
